Button fly

Remember the old days of the web, where insane collectors cataloged their manias for the world to see? Where terrible design, including "portals" belied neat things kept by amateurs?

I stumbled onto these bank logos via Ffffound and thought they were neat examples of two-color design. But the primary focus of the site is buttons like these.

Also collected: Maritime flyers, Ads for button suppliers, sample cards… All sorts of stuff.

Well, this does remind me of the old days when I used dialup and routinely encountered pages in which none of the images loaded.

Hey, klang? Back up your links to smaller hosts with Coral Cache.

Some of those displays are lovely. I walk past a great and beautiful window display of ribbon (or hems or something, NYC garment district), talk about the color wheel. Although my favorite right nor are window displays of artificial nails. It is like those great displays of butterflies at the old Natural History museums, only these are wrapped in celophane, instead of under glass.

I just met a person who sews and they told me of the button fanatics. Apparently, the buttons are only ever for attaching to button cards, with wire not string. Use of the buttons to sew on garments or for decoration other than said collector cards will get you kicked out of the button meet or whatever. I couldn't care less about buttons before, but know I'm dying to go to one of these button meets to see obsession in its pure, harmless form.

You wanna see obsession?
Ask me about any of the 47 Bakelite cameras I squirrel away.
Or the 26 Japanese miniature "Spy Cameras" I dust off each month.
Or the Tom Corbett paraphernalia.
Or the 16 Star Trek Mego Action Figures.
Get likkered up, go on E-Bay, and you too can have a really cluttered attic...

Loq—Hey, thanks. I'll try to do that in the future.

If only I were not blind...
Oh wait, the images are not loading (but I can't wait until they do)!

Some of us have been able to keep the huge collection of our manias and the design at the same time.

Bank logos, buttons, more buttons.

They're loading fine for me at home (and were fine at work), but these coralcache links may help.

Well, now the Coral Caches aren't returning images, and neither is the site. Maybe give it some time? The guy does keep complaining about a lack of traffic to his site ;).

That's some cool stuff there anyway. Thanks for sharing it klang!

Nice stuff, thanks.

(Can somebody please send me an invite to fffound? Pretty please? I don't even know if there are any, but I've wanted one for freakin' ever, it seems like.)

I'd also love an invite to ffffound, but have to content myself with just browsin' it.
