Yeah, I remember this. My old sporecore band opened for Bert and Ernie at Sackfest in '97. Of course, back then they were called Gorecunt and were more of a deathsludge hatecore kind of thing -- think early Neurosis strung up by their balls and lowered slowly into a vat of lukewarm molasses. Ernie had fat, ropey, glue-caked dreads that he chewed plaintively in between songs, pausing every now and then to nibble out a nit or two. The only article of clothing he owned was a flea-ridden black burlap poncho with a couple of sewn-on kangaroo pockets in which he kept copies of his self-published Spartacus Youth zine "Orange is Red." (Which, and I'm quoting here, was aimed at "exploding the palefaced phallocracy forever!") But goddamn, that muppet could grind, and when the shit got counted off it was all business -- thrashing away at that beat-to-hell 3-string Jackson of his like a sackful of seizures in a microwave. And Bert, well, the less said about Bert at that point in his life, the better. I mean, how vegan is meth, really? The dude used to go on A.L.F. raids so deliriously jibbed that he'd smash open safety windows with his own face. I am not making this up. I've seen pictures. Seriously, then next time you see Bert, ask him to show you the tattoo under his right knee, the tribal Celtic biomechanical dolphin with a glass pipe hanging out of its mouth. Anyway, I remember that Barnfest set pretty well. They led with "Felt Skin Gently Putrifying in the Autumn of our Age" and followed it with their manifesto, "He Who Would Become Immortal Must Shear His Strings." Went on like that for a while, we were all pretty amped. Last song: Ernie spits out a dread nit and mumbles hoarsely into the mic, "We want to invite up an old comrade of ours to sing this one." And I shit you not, the door to Bert's 1985 Chevy G-20 opens and out of a cloud of smoke stumbles the Swedish Chef. Holy shit! He lopes up onto the stage, his poofy, grime-stained toque covered with Amebix patches, counts off a short four, Ernie brings that shit in, Bert rolls off into the fastest d-beat you ever heard, Chef tilts his head back, grabs a gutful of air, leans down deep into the mic and bellows: "BORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORK!" [rest, rest, rest, gasp] "BORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORKBORK!" Man, what a night. Sorry to bore you with the details, but this clip really brought me back.

I was laughing my ass off. I loved watching Sesame Street when my daughter was a toddler... and I play drums... this cracked me up. Great post! Thrash music sucks donkey dick, but the juxtaposition of Bert and Ernie and the thrash -- and the terrific video editing -- really do the job here.
