Barack's more perfect union...

Obama [youtube]. Say what you will; the man has a knack for dodging political bullets and laying down the word. His latest speech has people buzzing with comparisons to some of the finest in U.S. history.

This post was deleted for the following reason: There's an ongoing metatalk thread about this; notable as the speech is, this is a pretty automatic "scoop" kind of post and it'd probably be good to let the speech simmer a few days and let people react to it if we want to see a post with some good context, etc. -- cortex

pretty sure the grownups already said "no".

And yet, if someone had made an awesome post about this speech, it would have been fine, probably.

What's not to like?

This is not the great post it could have been. It doesn't even have a link to the text of the speech.

I found the speech both moving emotionally and outstanding politically but did hear one black commenter on tv say simply: Wright was wrong and Obama should have walked from that church some time ago instead of trying to justify things. though I certainly would vote for him, and did in the primaries at home, if he tells us Iraq is wrong and we need to leave, then.....?

Obama is an able, supple speaker.
His focus, ease, and pacing are exemplary.
Hillary sometimes gets shouty.
Her word choices don't always soar, she looks unsure at times.

But I'm still voting for Hillary.
What you say still trumps how you say it.

Apologies for missing the MeTa. When a political speech makes its way randomly into multiple conversations throughout the day, I figured it was worth sharing for those who might have missed it. Not intended to be plug directly, though in fairness, this cynic did find it moving. Again, I didn't see the ongoing discussion. Sorry 'bout that.

What you say still trumps how you say it.

And Iraq was a really, really good idea!

Riveting speech. It's no wonder that after 8 years of a mostly incoherent president, young voters are bowled over by someone who has such a positive and exciting message.

It's about time a President takes on the race issue in America, takes it beyond mere platitudes and political strategies. I hope Obama's the one. He might be. I know Clinton and McCain sure aren't.

That Rev Right had me so upset I actually cried. I was devastated. Sick to my stomach. Not that I am unfamiliar with 'Black Theology' and 'South American Theology' and all that (which may have it's place), but because for the first time in a long time I'd felt really good about a candidate and then felt like I'd been emotionally date raped. Gave the campaign money, first time for that also. I disagree with a lot of Obama's positions, but I admire his consistency, honesty and openness. And then I just couldn't see how...
Anyway, beautiful, convincing, historic speech today. Made me proud, once again, to be an American.
of course it's not about me anyway so I'll tiptoe away

Obama can't disown his mentor. It was a statement of fact, not will.
