Be a jedi on April 29! I know I will.
But wouldn't it be fun, at the very least for the census workers, to be able to write in "Jedi" and see how far it goes? As a freshman in college, for the class president, we all wrote in "Opus" (as in the Bloom County penguin) and he WON! The 'real' guy that actually got the position was the one who came in second. POWER TO THE PEOPLE! heh heh.

"In the last census, where we asked for a religion, lots of people who obviously don't have a religion put their football team."
Well, after winning 3-0 today, I now believe in the resurrection. Pshaw.

Holgate...I hope you do not celebrate the demise of Arsenal today. Anything other than Man U, non?
This Jedi thing doesn't seem to go away...I only posted it to try and get it some more attention because I really wish it would happen. Apparently the National Office of Statistics has a list of 'proper' religions. Still, no harm in trying to be a little subversive, is there?

'Spose I'll be writing my usual 'None denominational spiritualist' in the box just to confuse them. This catch-all terms has got me out of more conversations about the holy subject than there are actual religions in the world.

Look, all you'd be doing would be pretending that having all these people coming together and celebrating rituals based on a story some guy dreamed up means something. What a hoot!

I think William Shatner himself said it best: "Get a life!"

I don't have any time for people complaining that UK laws would prevent the 'Jedi' stunt from working. If anything it's likely to amuse the people in the Census office and add colour to their otherwise dreary task.
But the idea of Britain becoming an official Jedi nation is somewhat ridiculous, as the Guardian article rightly points out. My take on the whole affair has been online for a week or so now: www.tobyslater.com/jedi
