Don't forget Lurch. He's got horns that are 7 feet 6 inches across and 38 inch circumference. I know he's a Watusi and not a long horn, but still...

I think small horns set off your nose better, to be honest.

But do the horns make them taste any better?

Yeah, but I can walk through a door without turning sideways. I feel pretty adequate about that.

I was so sure that first picture of Lurch was a really bad photoshop job (obviously the proportion was all out of wack) and then I saw the second link with more pictures.
The mind boggles.

Great post -- beautiful steers... or whatever. Longhorns. Beasties.

You other ranchers can't deny
When a bull trots by with an easygoing pace
And a longhorn in your face

That's not quite what I mean when I tell my wife I've got the big horns on.
No bull.

Size not important. I like multiple horns, out in the middle of a field, dangerous foreign ones, in blistering attack mode.

Here's a splendid pair. I don't like cattle much, and that's based on a lot of experience with them, but I do sort of like placid, older bulls, the big stocky beef breeds. The kind like in the "No, let's walk down to the bottom of the hill and..." joke. Like great big bulky statues poised in the field, only occasionally moved from one place to another or pointed in a different direction for the sake of artistic variety.

jamaro: Hah, every time I see these kind of cattle, I wonder how well they can judge their own horizontal clearance.
Me too! I'm so baffled by this. Do they get stuck in trees? Do the horns have any... nerves or anything inside them so the animals can tell when they're scraping up on something?
(Obviously I know nothing about cattle.)

Well now I can't decide whether to name my next pet "Bo Jangles Chex" or "Kodiak Frostfree."
