The original is somewhat more distressing than the Lego version. It's the smiley faces that do it. Well the original is all kinds of distressing, but I have to disagree. The smiley faces creep me right the fuck out in this one.

Well the original is all kinds of distressing, but I have to disagree. The smiley faces creep me right the fuck out in this one. I was looking and then thinking "Yeah, yeah Lego why bother etc..." Then I got to "Loyalist Militiaman at the Moment of Death" and something stirred. After I looked at "Viet Cong Captain" I understood why this was Good Art. I don't know that he deserves an NEA Grant, but I see what he's doing and it's good.

By the way, it is not "Legos". It is "Lego". No, it is "Lego® bricks". Saved you a C&D. I recognized a couple of these from the thumbnail, and almost all the rest I at least knew -- once I clicked through to the original. I wasn't able to recognize them all from the recreation alone, though. Quite reminiscent, of course, of Screenshots^mefi.

I agree with this from the earlier thread: Technically, "Lego" is the company name and the toys they sell are made of "Lego bricks." The company may have various reasons relating to trademark enforcement and marketing to promote the distinction. But as a fan, I couldn't care less. To me those bricks are Legos. When I was a kid, I played with Legos, and now that I have kids we play with Legos together. "Lego bricks" is like saying "GNU/Linux"; it just doesn't flow off the tongue. posted by Loudmax at 5:14 PM on January 28 If you prefer to talk about "Lego bricks," be my guest. I've never thought the plural should be anything other than "Legos." Never occurred to me. I understand the company's preferred usage, to protect their brand. But come on. This is like correcting someone when they ask for a Kleenex. "It's not a Kleenex®! It's a Sam's Club brand facial tissue! Do you still want one, snotface?"

That's reminded me of the great time in the 80s when we used to annoy McD's staff by asking deliberately for 'a coke' and getting a garbled 'It's-McDonalds-brand-cola-will-that-be-all-right-yes-sir-thank-you-sir' back every single time. heh - i remember having to watch the training video for that, with the mcdonalds director telling us to call it mcdonalds cola because the directors could be prosecuted - which was a real incentive to us : )
