All joking aside, penguins are pretty fascinating creatures. Did you know that the male balances the egg on his feet to prevent it from freezing? Here, check it out. posted by Meatbomb at 12:06 AM on April 1, 2008

I was impressed by how real the video looked. I was expecting it to go off into "haha, we'll show it's a joke with obviously fake animation" once the penguin got off the ground. posted by Nattie at 4:21 AM on April 1, 2008

Great, that made my girlfriend cry when she realized it wasn't real. Thanks, Telegraph and MeFi. Thanks a lot. posted by 2or3whiskeysodas at 5:51 AM on April 1, 2008 [1 favorite has favorites]

The problem is that flat-plate theory doesn't really apply to penguin aerodynamics. And with those fat wings they're not going to get anywhere close to the trans-sonic barrier. posted by backseatpilot at 6:42 AM on April 1, 2008 [1 favorite has favorites]
That animation was a lot of work for a joke. Good for them! posted by Grod at 8:36 AM on April 1, 2008
That was a gorgeous video! I loved the scene with the penguins taking off, so well done! posted by arcticwoman at 8:48 AM on April 1, 2008
Now I have to wonder how much of the most recent Planet series' were total CGI fabrications... the fluorescent jellyfish? the parasite wasps? the sleepy lizards? posted by Molesome at 8:58 AM on April 1, 2008
