Tutti: Lord, I LOVE to watch a fat man dance.
BoF: WtF? This has always perplexed me. Was he proto-Andy Kaufman?
Good: Not for Nothing from Nothing, but the Fifth Beatle sounds better with a fro.
All in all, I'd give it a 95, Dick. It has a great beat and you can dance to it. posted by stubby phillips at 4:34 PM on April 8, 2008
Yeah, they're covers, but they're pretty good covers. If you had shown Pat Boone covering Little Richard that'd be different. posted by jonmc at 4:37 PM on April 8, 2008

You got it, jonmc. That was pretty much my point. posted by flapjax at midnite at 4:49 PM on April 8, 2008

Don't you really mean stole rock and roll?
Awsome comment, I don't think "white" people should play "black" music that would just be wrong. Lets keep the "black" music were it belongs on that side of town. Well played sir. posted by nola at 4:49 PM on April 8, 2008
Hey nola, I can't speak for bardic, but I'm guessing his comment was pretty firmly tongue-in-cheek. Anyway, I'm hopin' so... posted by flapjax at midnite at 4:51 PM on April 8, 2008

Cool, because I was worried that you were harshin' on the Bronx Blue-Eyed Soul of my boys in the Rascals and that would just be wrong, man. posted by jonmc at 4:52 PM on April 8, 2008

Maybe I'm a little quick on the trigger, but his comment seems divisive in a way the title of the post doesn't suggest, and a typical left leaning cute snark that we see plenty of around here. Nice post btw. posted by nola at 5:05 PM on April 8, 2008
On second thought, you all seem to be enjoying the post and I'm sorry if I spoke out of turn. Nevermind all that noise, lets boogie. posted by nola at 5:15 PM on April 8, 2008
When you're dealing with the level of greatness that is Jerry Lee, Little Richard and Elvis, the whole white/black thing doesn't come into play. These men each monumental in his own way. But Tiny Tim -- as much as I have admired him, his "Great Balls of Fire" was a kind of self-immolation. The end of his career as he'd enjoyed it up to that point. posted by Faze at 5:22 PM on April 8, 2008

No sweat, nola! And I'm hearin' where you were comin' from, BTW.

Well, there's a lot of e' on my face now.
Indeed there is, n_o_d! I mean, a misspelling like that? Everyone knows there's two 's in e''. posted by flapjax at midnite at 6:31 PM on April 8, 2008
Not that I like seeing the musico's fighting over their hummin' instruments, it surely does make for a grand night in the Mefi town. posted by LiveLurker at 7:32 PM on April 8, 2008
Great post, flapjax - very fun - I love Little Richard! But I would suggest that this is the ultimate version of Hound Dog. posted by madamjujujive at 9:53 PM on April 8, 2008 [1 favorite]
