There are back page posts. You need Antarctic Adventure and Comic Bakery to warp there, though.

The Dismemberment Plan wrote a (I submit) much better song dealing with same issue. Do the Standing Still, from The Dismemberment Plan is Terrified. Here is a pretty bad youtube video of them performing it.

I remember hearing a live performance of them right after Emergency & I came out. They were basically performing at a strip mall -- you could hear 8 or 10 people milling around and barely applauding. It made me unspeakably happy that they did this song.

What does that get you today?

Oh yeah, here's a link. A guy's shirt in the video reminded me of this.

Jeez. If your gonna poke fun of the "kids" at least don't act like your own efforts are too deadly dull for even YOU to appreciate.

And of course the easy "indie kid" comeback will be a song titled: "Lose some weight there grandpa before you have a stroke."

If you are considering watching that whole video, I'll warn you know they don't light themselves on fire at the end.

I love this song, and this video. The guy's blog is hilarious, too. But if you think the song and the video suck you probably won't find the blog amusing in the least.

I fink its GRATE.

Who are these people and why should I care whether they suck?

I liked the song! Video meh. Really, I came in here to pimp the Plan, but penduluum beat me to it. I would pay untellable sums to see them again again please again. WHAT AM I DOING!?!12lkwejf

I'll give them some credit for completely nailing that late-80's Flying Nun Kiwipop sound, but the lyrics are... Are they supposed to be funny? They seem like they want to be. They're mostly just dull, though.

FWIW there was a song called "Do The Standing Still" back in the late 70s I believe, by Table.

See also "Zombie Dance" by The Cramps.

People have been shuffling around at shows for a long time.

Or standing still, I should say.

Stinkycheese, I was just about to mention The Table's classic "Do The Standing Still," on a Virgin Records 7". Much better than this.

It's a good 'un.

I loved it, but I was an early 90's indie kid myself so I'm a dog for that Pavlovian brand of pop.

If anyone else was curious, The Table's "Do The Standing Still" can be found here. I'm happy to report to pendulum and wemayfreeze that dplan is still king of this particular hill. (and any hills involving Boston, gyroscopes, DC, wintertime, memory, bombs, feelings, bras, boxing, I-95, etc)

Frankly, if an indie kid ever moves his or her hips, he or she is not indie enough. Death to false indie!

I once danced so hard at a Radiohead show that my glasses flew off my face and broke. My skinny-jeans-and-Sauconys-wearing friends seemed so mortified that they almost couldn't bring themselves to talk to me.

Also: I'm so glad I'm not the only person here who would give up limbs to see the dplan back together.

Honestly, that should be one of your two or three biggest reasons to even bother having a ceremony and reception and everything.

I don't usually like middle-aged people's rock music, but this was fine. It might be because I'm a sucker for any dance song though.
