An Untitled Story. (apologies, pc download only). An action-platformer by Matt Thorson in the tradition of Seiklus, Knytt (previously 1 2), & Metroid It is full of awesome.

Protip: there's some pretty difficult jumping stuff in there, but the most difficult stuff is generally optional so if you get stuck in one area it may be that you need a power up from somewhere else. Bonus link: karoshi2 (also pc download only). Clever puzzler. (I hate the phrase "think outside the box" but it's very literally appropriate to the solution of at least one of the puzzles.)

I haven't played this yet (downloading now), but apparently related would be Aquaria, a really beautiful indie payware game that feels a bit like Metroid. It's also full of awesome, and has a free demo available.

I paid for Aquaria just to support the whole idea of it, but iirc my partial color impairment makes the color matching bits a bit of a pain. Might have another crack at it later. It is gorgeous though.

ha. karoshi means (roughly) "Death by overwork," no? Anyway, thanks for this; I'm always looking for other games in the same vein as knytt and seiklus. (The music alone from knytt et. al. is awesome)

Sorry to disappoint: the music for AUS is kinda mediocre, but the gameplay makes up for it.

Excellent game, I stayed up way too late last night getting to 33% completion. I completed his game Jumper back in the day, that was a lot of fun.

Man, I've just gotten to The Curtain and it is mean. Not that any of the individual screens are that tough, but you basically fall back to the beginning of the area if you slip up. Grrr. White bird thing needs more save points. Badly.

Finally beaten it at 78%. Had to resort to a walkthrough to pick up some extra hearts to make it through the penultimate area. Never managed to get a blessed one of the heart-gated ones though.
