Castration extends life??? Not that I frequent this site, but the current Playboy reading list includes the Sex Lover's Book of Lists by the authors of the "How to Succeed With Women" and "How ... Men" books. Note the factoid in the review, in the 2nd paragraph, "men live longer without testicles (13 years longer, on average...)". (involuntary crossing of legs here) I've never heard that before, and I am not sure I believe it; I am only sure I don't want to believe it.

You never know, it might be possible. All that energy that goes into producing sperm might just take a lot out of a person over time.

I wonder if the depression from not having sex again would cut down that longer life expectancy via higher suicide rates.

and sure JParker, you were just reading playboy.com for the articles... I believe it. I really do. uh huh, yep. :)

Knew that comment was coming... my only defense is that the link is to the Playboy library site. The reading room, as it were. For, you know, articles.

cats and dogs supposedly live longer as well if they've been spayed and neutered. up to twice as long if they're kept indoors as well.

logical progression: a castrated geek will be well nigh immortal! mooohahahaha.

The question, mathowie, is would you be depressed about not having sex without all that testosterone flooding your body?

are we on to something here?
...
i sure as heck hope not, i mean yeah .... you may live longer .... but what about all the fun that youd be missing out on?
...
what the true question here is not so simple as whether of not one might wish to live longer, but rather what lengths (or shortenings ;) they might be willing to go to.
...
and one last comment, on behalf of all men around the world ... Ouch.

Lemme see... I can take a twelve year bonus on the back end of mortality, letting me live into my late 90s as a crotchety, toothless, half-blind, alzheimers stricken nursing home convict... or I can make do with about eighty years or so with the hoohahs in good working order.

It may just be me, but with old age being what it is currently, I think I just learned to cherish my maturation speed bumps even more.

(Of course, in a way, I can rationalize things this way - it's not exactly the mechanics of the swing of the pendulum that kills you, it's the long years of work spent on trying to keep 'em in operation that ultimately does the work on you.)

Or, to capsulize my entire thought process on this subject with a quote from a movie,

McCoy: "No! You'll flood the whole compartment!"
Kirk: "He'll die!"
Scott: "Die? He's dead already."
McCoy: "It's too late, Jim."

It does kinda make you wonder about the math. If I wait until I'm 87, does that guarantee me triple digits? Or does it really extend the lifespan by 130 years, but 9 out of 10 suicide, for an "average" of 13 years?

How many years do I get for just the left one?

I thought this was already a well established fact. Why do you think life expectancy for women is several years greater than for men?

i couldn't find the info on castration contributing to longer life, but ...

according to practitioners of tantric yoga, preserving the ejaculate (don't nut)enables men to have multiple orgasms, and will also prolong life. this book is a little touchy-feely new-agey, but it's loaded with good ideas for making the sex act a little less porno and a little more divine
