I made these Chocolate Oatmeal w/chocolate chip cookie last month and they've been a huge hit in the family, apparently this is Cooks Illustrated's recipe based on the infamous Mrs' Fields/Neiman Marcus urban myth about the $250 cookie recipe (worth reading if you have no idea what I'm talking about).

Anyway, the updated recipe is here, but basically the improvements are to "replace flour with ground oats" and mix melted chocolate into the dough. I doubt they were ever secrets, but the result is pretty damn good.

parmanparman, you should try these pumpkin cookies, with the icing or without -- not really the season for pumpkin, of course, but canned pumpkin is always hanging around in the baking aisle.
ha! i never noticed that, killy willy

let's see, i think the last time i made sour cream softies with that recipe it produced about 3 dozen cookies, give or take - but, yah, since they usually all get eaten in the first day, "1 servings" is pretty accurate

omm nom nom nom!
this might be good for you, parmanparman -

my favorite recipe is nestle toll house. now, i realize those are chocolate chip cookies - but they're just as good (if not better) with no chips added. i usually make the dough with no chips and then separate it into a bunch of different bowls and mix in whatever seems good that day. anything from the different flavored chips (chocolate, reeses, mint...) to nuts to dried fruit.

to improve the recipe add double or triple the vanilla and at the end of mixing, right before you scoop out your cookies, add a splash of milk.

also, to finished cookies, put a slice of white bread in with them. it'll keep things moist.

These are the best cookies I know: Sand Tarts. [self-link] Do not include sand, and are not tart-like. They require some effort, and the use of a pastry cloth and rolling pin cover. But they're worth it.

I have tried many cookie recipes, and discarded most. The ones here are the ones I thought good enough to make again and again.

Oh, yeah, and I'm shocked that the '50 Best' list doesn't include Pecan Tassies.

Andes Mint cookies have always been my most popular cookie. This recipe is similar to mine, but not identical.

Seven-Layer Bars and Oatmeal Scotchies are really common recipes, I know, but I still love them.

Silver Palate's Molasses Cookies are also fantastic.

I'm usually a fan of snickerdoodles or chocolate chunk, but I recently made some cookies with dried cranberries and pistachios that flew off the plate so fast I only got 2.

I made these as part of my Christmas cookies last year and they were very well received. It's a nice drop cookie base, too -- you can add stuff other than the peppermint bark.

I'm fond of these printer spice cookies, which a friend baked and brought to a party. The recipe is from 1752! They are easy to make and very popular, so I always have a plate on hand for entertaining....although it is difficult for me to resist devouring them myself.

Try some anzac cookies.

Cookies? COOKIES? They're BISCUITS. ANZAC BISCUITS!

Anyway, my missus made these two recipes from Ultimate Recipe Showdown, and they were fantastic. I mean seriously, seriously good. Just wow.
