Wow, cool find. Photos from my home town. I wish I knew the address of the actual station.

Info about the referenced murder case here and here.

I like the poster, too. Really makes you think about how useful IDs are. If Jim hadn't bought that fifth and rendered it moot in its prime it might have gone on to help MacGyver jimmy a lock, or the professor on Gilligan's Island to build a Zune.

It's in the ghetto and the city doesn't have a police force anymore.

Cant afford a police force when you have to settle lawsuits and pay for hits on strippers named strawberry that like to snitch...

Where the hell did the prisoners get the black stuff to write on the walls with?

Is this guy new to the whole urban exploration thing or did he fail the logic section of his SATs?

Also, +++ for the "quonsar" tag. It's underutilized.

I had that cell phone in the mid nineties, or one that was very close. Mine was the official Motorola 1996 Atlanta Olympics version. It weighed about half a pound, had really shitty service and cost a fortune to use. I was the coolest kid on campus!!

Is there no proceedure for properly closing a police station? It is almost like it was abandoned overnight. It seems like there should be some accountability for all of the evidence and records. Merge them with another station? Something? Would the abuse and mistreatment of the evidence give someone cause to appeal and re-open their case? I'm woefully ignorant in these matters.

"Is there no proceedure for properly closing a police station?"

This is Detroit, where there is NO accountability for government.

Nice post.... I too wonder where it is....

So they left all these records and evidence behind when they closed the station. Now could a criminal that was convicted of a crime see this and ask to get a retrial, then when they go back to trail all the evidence is there so they persecutor can't find it and the criminal gets off?

He refers to it as "urbex" so I'm thinking he's a new one.

I really liked this post, I've spent the last 15 minutes or so looking at his other destinations. Pretty cool. Makes me want to go take more pictures of the old munitions factory nearby.

Great find.

When I was in grad school, I read an auction notice in the local paper for what had once been an old country store, although the area around it had since become a major metropolitan area. The owners locked it up sometime in the 1940s and left everything in place. The children (or maybe grandchildren) were selling off the contents. After sixty odd years, everything was still intact, and walking through the store was like going back in time. I read that there are people who specialize in buying up the contents of old stores like this which I find amazing. I've always wished I could find something like the store or the police station in the post.
