Well, young folk, there was a time, y'know, when bands would put their band name on the kick drum head, so the audience could see the name of the band, y'see? Why, best as I can recall, the The Yardbirds did it, and The Zombies, too. And The Hollies. Oh, and did I mention The Yardbirds? Well, my memory's not what it used to be... oh, and there was those boys from Liverpool, used to sing about Kansas Cty so well, why, you'd think they'd actually been there! Now, there was this one band called themselves the Spencer Davis Group, but I never could figure out why, cause it was that little Winwood fella just outta knee pants who was the star of that show! So, is the rock n' roll today any better than what we listened to back then? Well, I dunno, you really got me, there... But there was that band that sang about my generation... now, who was that? Oh, well, this'll be the last time I bother you youngsters with all this old stuff. Anyway, truth be told, some of it was just godawful. Why, you'd rather be struck by lightning than to listen to that crap. Well, anyway, thanks for helping me with the groceries! Y'all run along and listen to your Animal Collective, I'll just stay here and listen to my Animals.

So I was watching some Stones videos on youtube last night, and... okay, did Bill Wyman always look that confused on stage? This one's really priceless though. He's not just wondering what's going on — it's starting to dawn on him, and it's worse that he suspected.

I'll let you slide on the whole "young folk" crack because a) even a Love Child such as myself shows respect to their elders, b) my folks were so into music that my early influences were wide, and varied, and you just triggered all kinds of sense memories with these links, and finally c) this: couldn't sing his nasally ass out of a paper bag... just made me snort with laughter, despite my exhaustion.

Steve Winwood has a new album out too. Caught a cut off it earlier tonight on cable music's adult alternative channel. Still sounds good to me. I don't want to see or hear Tom Petty, I can't stand his singing. (sorry but I can't. And me from Florida too.) Winwood's been singing since 1963 when he joined the Spencer Davis Group at the ripe old age of 15. Rock on, Steve.
