INNER FEELINGS FROM OUTER SPACE: An anonymous Maxis dev pairs the bizarre creatures of Spore (pre vi ous ly) with an assortment of deep and not-so-deep thoughts in this oddly amusing little video blog.

Topics discussed so far:

Stars, Mating, Arms, Planet Doughnut, Egg nog, Infancy, Anti-gravity, Cosmology, Hindsight, Movies, The Big Bang, and Cake.

All the videos are mirrored at YouTube, with more on the way. Should serve as a decent distraction until the free Creature Creator download next month.

These would benefit a lot from a human voice actor.

And from having opening titles cut in half, lengthwise.

Is it just me or does this seem like a whole lot more work than it's worth?

wow, I didn't know that "Maxis" as a name was still around. (of course I never did get into The Sims) I saw this post and thought, "I wonder what Maxis has to do with Spore..."

Then, a split second later, I remembered that Wil Wright is the guy more or less responsible for both.

as an aside, it would be super awesome if I could import my old SimEarth/SimLife files into Spore, like you can with the old SimCity files.

This is good. For further reading, I personally enjoyed when the Spore Team decided to take this original VG Cats comic and then turn the creatures depicted in it into 'real' Spore creatures.

There is a special place in Hell for people who make videos that are for real and no shit two-thirds intro and outro.

ROU_Xenophobe, you are so correct. If there's any justice, that hell will force them to sit in an uncomfortable chair and watch a credit sequence for all eternity.

By the way, the Creature Creator will be $10. There's a demo version that is free, but all demos are, aren't they? Well, they should be.

I'm sure this guy (or girl) is this close to violating their NDA by posting stuff from a game still in development. Although no backgrounds, particle effects, music, or gameplay are shown. Still, try explaining that to suit-type people. Maybe that's why the anonymous.

That said, these are some very clever creatures. I tested Spore for awhile, and he's doing some things the Creature Creator is not really made to do. Nice job.
Although the animation at the beginning could be better. The creatures actually have a variety of dances within the game, so i don't know why that single-frame stuff.

Miles Long, what? You mean this isn't all just a bunch of Spore publicity?

I had that thought. Viral marketing.
But if it was marketing, they'd make the game look better.

And what do you mean by 'this all?' Us? Maybe we're all just Spore publicity.
Man.
