Summer has arrived! It's the perfect time to experiment with flowers. Begonias, pansies, roses, violets, lavender and more are all edible. Throw some color in your salad and enjoy! Careful, though!

What a timely post. My squash plants are blossoming beautifully right now and my ex-farmer boss was telling me just this morning that the flowers are delicious. I laughed and told him I didn't want to eat them because then I wouldn't have any squash, but he said you just eat the male flowers and leave the females to form the fruit.

So, um, can anyone tell me how to sex squash flowers?

Oh, and he said day lillies are delicious, too.

Glad to know about this (from the second last link): " Linden - Small flowers, white to yellow was are delightfully fragrant and have a honeylike flavor. NOTE: Frequent consumption of linden flower tea can cause heart damage"

I found squash blossoms at a local farmer's market stall last summer. Yum.
