Remember the awesomeness that is Hilti & Bosch and Co-Thkoo?

Well Robert Muraine is right up there with them.

Who knew you could pop and lock rubber?

I'm all about a nice Hilti or Bosch. The nail guns sound kinda like Co-Thkoo even.

Nope, I've wondered why the Japanese duo named themselves after power drills.

I've seen some really good acts of this variety, but I think that might be the single best one I've seen so far. Fantastic.

Between getting back in town just in time to watch the live feed during the Phoenix landing and this I've had a pretty awesome day. Thanks!

Was that Nigel Lythgoe on that panel? Is it an essential component of the US game-show format these days that they import a nasty Englishman to play the Simon Cowell role? I was watching American Inventor the other day (which might be one of the worst programmes ever), and they had one of the venture capitalists from Dragon's Den on. When he's on Dragon's Den, he's the nicest of the bunch, but on American Inventor, he's a complete ogre.

(Mind you, that's a relative thing because all you have to do is mention babies or firemen on American Inventor and the other morons on the panel will start launching other people's money at you like it's going out of style. With Dragon's Den, they're investing their own money in real companies, so you'd expect them to be a bit more circumspect.)

Anyway, sorry for the derail. It was a great clip.

But who the hell would buy a Xmas tree fire extinguisher, for Christ's sake? Who ever heard of a Xmas tree bursting into flames? (I'm sorry, I'll stop now. Honest.)

What a pity the show doesn't actually know how to shoot dance. I gave up after a few minutes of trying to reconstruct on the fly what this talented man had done and the cameramen/director had deconstructed.

Totally agreeing with ancientgower here. I do like the show (So You Think You Can Dance) because it showcases some fantastic dance talent, but the camerwork/direction! Oh my gods, will someone please just slap the fucking director silly and bolt those cameras in place? We want to watch the dancing, not feel like we're on some kind of juvenile roller-coaster wannabe. ('course, it's a reality show, so it actually *is* a juvenile roller-coaster wannabe, but we *don't want to be forced to realise that).

Isn't this type of dancing what used to be called Mime?

A lot of early breakdancing moves were taken directly from the "robot family" routine by Shields and Yarnell. So, yes.

ancientgower is right about the shooting. all talent show programs suffer from this it seems.

Great dancer and all... others are praising his perfectly adequately. I was actually impressed that one of the judges (the old guy) demonstrated some level of insight, thought and (omfg) open-mindedness in expressing doubt about his compatibility with choreography and all that.

The other two, typically, were collectively able to contribute: "ohmy goooooood! he's like a robot! are you a robot?"

Astro Zombie -- Thanks for mentioning Shields and Yarnell. Back when robot moves first came into R & B dancing, I thought, "Hey, these fellows are stealing from that mime duo with the cute girl who had the summer replacement show -- or are they? Usually, it's white performers who steal from uncredited black originators. Could this" (I wondered) "be possible? Nahhh." Then I got mugged.

I was actually impressed that one of the judges (the old guy) demonstrated some level of insight, thought and (omfg) open-mindedness in expressing doubt about his compatibility with choreography and all that.

If you are not familiar with So You Think You Can Dance, you should realize that in terms of quality of talent, performance, and judging, the show is MILES away from American/Pop Idol and the like. The dancers are just phenomenal, and the judges are actually insightful and honest. Nigel is by no means the harshest judge (just watch Mary Murphy put the smackdown on some b-boy who thinks he can fake his way through a quick step) and, being a former dancer himself, often gives really constructive criticism. Even on the audition shows, SYTYCD shows its character. Instead of making fun of folks who appear to be mentally ill or developmentally disabled, they are generally supportive and encouraging (or at least are honest without being condescending) of folks who just don't have the talent (or just aren't the right fit) for the show.

I am not a fan of most reality/talent shows (Amazing Race is another important exception), but I can't get enough of SYTYCD. Thanks for the post.
