Cool beans. But I must add my favourite, Psycho Beach Party I probably should have specified documentary films, although among different kinds of surf films, the 60s beach party films (and later incarnations) certainly have their place. All of the films in the post above are documentaries, but some do have an unmistakable 60s feel (part of the fun of some of the vintage clips and trailers). The Endless Summer is the one that started it all, and it remains a fantastic film; I recommend it highly to anyone who has never seen it: you don't have to care about or know about surfing at all to thoroughly enjoy it.

Seconding what ornate insect said about "The Endless Summer" (you don't have to care about or know about surfing at all to thoroughly enjoy it). I'm in the middle of land-locked Kansas and I've never surfed a day in my life, but I watched "The Endless Summer" on late-night television years ago when there was nothing else on and I had a sick baby to cuddle, and I was thoroughly captivated by it. I would love to watch it again, but I've never been able to find it at my library or my local video store.

You linked to Thicker Than Water, therefore we must also mention The September Sessions, Sprout, and A Brokedown Melody - all released by Woodshed Films, with soundtracks on Brushfire Records. Back in the '90s, surf vids tended to feature aggressive shortboard riding with punk soundtracks. The people behind Woodshed films (aka the Moonshine Conspiracy) produce surf videos that are much more geared towards the soul surfer, and the soundtracks are much more eclectic and befitting the concept of surf as a lifestyle vs. surf as a competitive sport. I heartily recommend the soundtracks for The September Sessions and Thicker Than Water. And if you get the DVDs, they're perfect for background audio and visual during a summer night get together.
