You Look Nice Today

You Look Nice Today | A Journal of Emotional Hygiene is one of those podcasts all the kids are talking about these days. It's just a few guys, you know, talking, but it's newish, amusing, and one of the guys is Metafilter's Very Own™ MerlinMann.

As always, the funny is subjective. Your mileage may vary. I like it, anyway.

Have you design skills and an interest in men’s uniforms? Does the idea of a very tight crotch area and optional merit badges pique your curiosity? Well, we could use your help.

Merit badges? This is creepy.

Talking about podcasts is like architecting about Elvis Costello.

That said, YLNT is perfectly funny, and is a great apertif to Tom Scharpling's The Best Show on WFMU podcast, where fans of YLNT (and vice versa) would find much to love. But I'm sorta biased.

Who the hell types about them?

It is funny as hell. There's a bit too much corpsing going on sometimes, but it's one of my favorite podcasts. Plus it taught me a new dance.

I would have thought the ™ was a give-away that that was a joke. No? Not obvious? Shouldn't have bothered then. Stinkface.

Who the fuck talks about podcasts?

You know, the kids.

Also, get off my lawn.

I like this podcast. I heartily approve. But not everyone might dig the "three dudes sitting around acting silly" vibe.

I do, though. It's what I do with my friends in normal conversation anyway.

I laughed. Out loud. A couple of times. Thumbs up for me.

This is definitely amusing. I've never really done the podcast thing before, but I actually downloaded all of the episodes and burned them to CD-ROM so I could listen to them in my car on the way to work this morning. I now find myself doing The Fishstick at my desk.

This podcast taught me how to do the fishtick. For that, I will forever be in its debt.

Is this the thread where we post our Fishstick videos?

I was laughing within the first minute. Loved it.

(I dream of the day a person can wear a fanny pack in peace. Of course they're right about it meaning I've given up but still, there's my water bottle and my bus pass and a pack of gum and my hands are still free to tie the noose.)

So is Merlin Mann a nom-de-plume, or does he owe his parents a stiff beating?

Also, if my surname was Mann, I'd be obliged to name my firstborn Yo-letmeholdadollar

fixedgear: It's an indication that the poster is far too busy to type out the sentence "It was too long, so I didn't listen", much less to actually listen to the linked media.

Great podcast, unfortunately they're not doing one this week. If you want a chuckle every few hours, follow Merlin's twitters too. One of my favorites in recent days:
In the minutes it takes Photoshop to launch, it should show an 80s action montage of the app applying camo paint & strapping on many knives.

Oh wow, how did I not think of posting this podcast!? I love this podcast and only after 3 episodes it shot up to my top 5 podcast list, it amazingly funny and i really appreciate just having the random convo compared to every tech/videogame podcast that i listen to that usually have the same news.

Who doesn't love YLNT? It's a hard-hitting and informative look into modern medicine; I urge you all to join the fight against Sacks-Minnelli disease.

And that, Ladies & Gentlemen, is why people write scripts. So, so bad. But then, there's always room for something on the internet. I guess I'm not nerdy enough to get a laugh out of this. However, I will be able to make a note of those who like this and judge them harshly in other threads where humour is involved.

I could have changed my duvet cover instead of listening to this. Ruin my domestic routine why don't you Stav?

Watch out for the MONSTERS OF PODCASTING TOUR, featuring You Look Nice Today and Jordan, Jesse Go! coming to your town in 2008!

(OK, so far, we're only coming to San Francisco... but we may come to Los Angeles!)

YLNT and JJGO! fit precisely together in my mind, Jesse/YoungAmerican. Love both 'casts immensely. I really like listening to smart, funny, clearly life-loving folks sit around and make the funny together, if only in part because I wish I was there scaling the ziggurat of comedy along with 'em.

Sadly, comedy ziggurats are few and far between in the hinterlands of Korea, although I do spot the occasional comedy shanty off in the distance.

You want to get out more Stav...Look out for The Mighty Boosh amongst others. They may be getting paid but they're sitting atop the ziggurat wondering what the hell those spotty, white boys are doing scrabbling around in the undergrowth way down there.
