OMG, that was just an excuse to post Bon Scott dressed up as Pippi Longstocking, wasn't it, flapjax? Well, it's one of my favorite songs as well, and I'd never heard the AC/DC rendition before, which is AWESOME. The first I heard the song, I'd just gotten Ted Nugen'ts Double Live Gonzo when I was 11 or 12. So here's the obligatory Motor City Madman link. You know I love you so! Excellent post.

Jesus, how I used to loathe Budgie. During the early 70's, it seemed as though you couldn't see a gig without Budgie occupying their usual third billing. I'm astonished anyone even remembers them, that's how bad they used to be.

I can't think of anyone I know who has heard of them. On reflection, it might have had something to do with the other bands that I saw them framed by. Between 1970 and 1972 or 1973, I used to work at this venue for Roger Eagle. Nothing exciting, just helping roadies lug in the gear, in return for free admission to the gigs (and pot dealing rights to the bands). They might have been great, but when you seeing them playing the same 1500 seat venue alongside bands like Free, John Martyn, Led Zeppelin, Roxy Music, Captain Beefheart, Lou Reed, David Bowie, The Faces, The Kinks, etc. they came across as very weak sauce indeed.

I guess the poster who is mistaken about the best version of all has never heard the truly best version. On the contrary, I find this to be the most soulless and dull version of all those presented. Even Aerosmith's cover of the Animals' version has some balls. On the other hand, the 1963 Big Joe Williams performance is breathtaking. Thanks, flapjax!
