What does a week's worth of family groceries cost around the world? What's in a typical shopping trolley? US$1.23 in Chad, $465.84 in Luxembourg, $345 in Canada, and more polar bear than you might expect.

It's strange how some stories are really, really appealing to people who've never read MeFi before.

i'd like to see what a week of food for a single person would be like. personally, itd be a lot of carry-out bags, a bag of rice and some cans of beans.

My single week of food box would contain

- a couple tomatoes
- assorted grains
- one or two vegetables
- iced tea and soft drinks
- a 47 lb block of cheese

I'm curious about the specific appeal of this article. It's pretty thin on actual facts, trends, analysis... y'know, stuff. I suspect it's more like while people eat like this, but brown people eat like this!
