That's just an horrific story, I can't imagine being forced to sit next to someone in that condition. And I can't believe there's no medical attendant along on those trips. I don't even know what to say.

the trivialization of death is grotesque and hilarious. i motion to put a dying guy on every plane.

How about putting one healthy person on a plane full of dying people?

The article neglects to mention the cause of death. If someone sitting next to me on a plane starts frothing and dying, I'm thinking “ebola”...

Additionally, if you're listening, Mr. Haughey, could you please put some <form></form> tags around the Preview-ed post form? They're not showing up in Netscape, and I can't view-source (get the source of the data missing error) to check if this is the problem. Thanks!

elle,
a dying guy on every plane? It happens already -- I mean, that airplane food is killing lots of people every day, on so many planes...

"You'd better tell the Captain we've got to land as soon as we can. This woman has to be gotten to a hospital."

"A hospital? What is it?"

"It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now."

how smug and first world of you all. this only happened because there is no air ambulance service in that part of the world.

should he have just been left to die on the island, when there was a small chance he would have made it if he got to a hospital on time?

how rude to place the comfort of paying passengers above his own survival...

Who's saying he should have been left to die on the island? My concern is that he was sent alone, with no one to comfort him, when he was obviously so ill. And I wouldn't want to sit next to someone so ill, suffering, knowing it was not within my power to help him. Maybe that was unclear.

There's a big difference between ‘the comfort of paying passengers’ and the fact that a family was forced to watch as a terminally ill man sputtered and died. I don't know about you, but there are plenty of people out there who would be horribly affected by witnessing something like this.
