That might have been funny if it was one fourth as long.

Way over the top, not that clever, but I did want to see it after Olbermann gave it a mention on Countdown.

Oh sweet jesus.

It's HCFS I bet.

Well you know, attempts at shaming Republicans have worked so well before...

This video is to biting political satire as Keith Olbermann is to Edward R. Murrow.

I'm voting Republican by not voting.

Wait, I take it back. We need rock stars telling Republicans they suck. That'll work.
posted by Durn Bronzefist at 8:11 PM on June 18, 2008

And I thought Liberals were funnier than Conservatives. Silly me.

Pursuant to the BookHouse rule of martial arts when there is lame election-related stuff:

The first 5 minutes of The Book of the 18 Weapons of Kung Fu.

That would have been funny if there was an actual difference between the two parties.

Points for the flag collapsing in the cupcake, but not much else. The choir, she felt preached to.

Why, those Republicans and all who support them must be pure evil! This video will surely convince them of the error of their ways and persuade swing voters to vote Democrat as well.

How very clever.

I'm voting Republican out of spite.

Demiurge, yes too long, and it could have been more inspired. Still, the point holds. As much of a "straight talker" as McCain says he is going to be it still means morons like Mitch McConnell and Boehner having more strength. As "independent" as the "Mav" likes to think he is, he is not running on an independent ticket.

Does it say somewhere that the point of this ad is to convert Republicans?

I'm still voting Democtat even after watching that. Seriously with all that has happened over the last 7 years I can't think of why this clip would have to be made. Even Republicans can see something is wrong with their party, do we really have to go and whip up the spite vote by twisting everything they believe in around and shoving it in there face like this? They might as well have had a bunch of people saying; "I'm voting Republican because I'm a dumb shit who just likes to ruin it for everyone"

This is the kind of shit that makes me not want to be liberal any more. I hate that self-righteous bullshit.

cashman's got the right idea. There's an election coming up and, bitch as we might, there's gonna be a whole mess of votefilter posts popping up on the blue. I would very much like to see the Bookhouse Rule become a site institution. There's quality political debate to be had here on Metafilter, to be sure, but I'd really hate for the conflict to get out of hand. Therefore, let us post links to whup-ass videos along with our partisan screeds.

We can't stop the coming deluge of election threads. We can, however, make them a lot more fun. Who knows? Perhaps political bickering and over-the-top movie-fu will be the new chocolate and peanut butter, the two great tastes that taste great together.

So, ladies and gentlemen, I give you Tony Jaa.

Well, better not vote Republican then...

Seriously with all that has happened over the last 7 years I can't think of why this clip would have to be made.

Let me expand on that thought. For 7 years we have good hard evidence for why the Republican party should not get another 4 years in power. Putting together that case would not be hard to do, but this is just simply an attack on people's personal beliefs, and thier vision of what they want for the country. 7 years the Bush administration has made the Democrat's case for why we need a change. But then this comes along and highlights all the wedge issues that keep us in this country from working towards any kind of common ground. It just pisses me right off.

This will do wonders to counteract the perception of Democrats as smug elitists.

Wow.

Bashing Republicans. And the Republican Party.

This post certainly breaks new ground here at MetaFilter.

Live dangerously, Wet Spot. Keep on rockin' that wild spirit of innovation.

I'm voting Liberal because I want a government that likes killing babies as much as I do.

Hey, this is a fun game!

I'm voting Republican so that we can pass a law against Bobby Carmichael ever having to appear in a YouTube video again.

I'm voting Democtat because I want Mexico to overun our boaders. I'm voting Democrat because I want every honest citizen to have thier guns taken away and given to inner city thugs so they can loot the suburbs and conduct gay marriage ceremonies on top the corpses of aborted children, while singing The Internationale.

I agree. And I'm glad this video is getting panned here. That said, I do think there's a certain segment of the "liberal" population that can benefit from being convinced that the Republicans and Democrats are NOT interchangeable. I don't even understand it, personally. But I know a socialist activist who is campaigning for McCain. You wouldn't believe the cognitive dissonance that results from political discussions with this guy.

I remember how convinced we all were that America wouldn't really be dumb enough to vote for Bush again.

Painfully unfunny.

Both the video and the commentary here. Needs more LOLZ.
