So I'm somewhere near San Jose, on my way to San Francisco after working from a remote office, to play a random music gig. Traffic is almost completely blocked, and I assume it's going to stay that way, so I proceed to pull out my ukulele and practice (including singing) while I creep along at a couple of miles per hour. It finally occurs to me that other people might be looking, and so I turn to my right, just before the guy in the car to my right notices me, laughs out loud in a very friendly way, and then drives on. I elect to assume that this will be everyone's response, and continue practicing. The gig was okay, but I think I made random people in cars happier with my mobile performance.

My apologies, mrgrimm. The computer and modem I am using was manufactured sometime in the current century and I wasn't even aware that there's a Quicktime file rendering a small moving image on the page. Please forgive me.

The problem with Quicktime is that the automatic updates insist on installing iTunes along with the Quicktime upgrade. You can opt out of the procedure, but then you don't get the Quicktime upgrade. You can manually go to the Apple site and download just the plain old Quicktime upgrade. I don't have an iPod - for months I was wondering why my snazzy work computer would brain-fart when it hit Quicktime, while my decrepit machines at home - where my kids have iTunes software - ran Quicktime just fine. One day I got sick of it and went to the Apple site and downloaded the upgrade. A few days later another work machine popped up with the Apple software upgrade dialog box, and it struck me that Apple really really wants you to install iTunes. So, yeah, Quicktime, bleah. But hurry on down and get your upgrades, cause these photos are very cool. There's a very L.A.-noir quality to them.
