This seems to happen a lot these days. Remember that other story on how one guy gave a check for $30k? She got all excited and stuff, went to deposit the check only to find it bounce several days later, so, in the end, she didn't even get 15% tip, she got 0% tip. Talk about cheap.
Luckily because of the publicity and all the owner thought it'd be good work to give her $30k himself, they got another story and the name was mentioned, I bet got some customers.

This is clearly one of those "random acts of kindness" stories, but the one thing that sticks out for me (call me a cynic) is that this woman continued to work as a waitress despite the fact that she was ill. If there are two things that shouldn't go together, it's illness and food service. I'm hoping she used at least some of that cash to get a shot of penicillin or something.

i love it when things like these happen....like when that guy who looked a lot like Nicholas Cage went into a diner and didn't have enough money to tip the waitress but he promised her if his lottery ticket one, she would get half the money...and when it did win he actually followed through with it.

wait. oops, that was a movie. well, it's nice to see things like these happen in real life.

and i'll bet the bank slapped her with a $25 bounced-check penalty!

Tiaka, I believe the amount was $10,000, not $30K. And, like the present instance, the tip was left on a credit card not paid by check.

The story was reported once as having involved a bounced check, but all the other wire services and networks describe the credit card in great detail.

Let's hope we don't read a story from North Carolina like this one in a few days.

Considering the quality of today's food service, I wouldn't be so sure about the latter. <grin>
