Motorists who park in disabled spaces are to be shamed into moving by a talking meter
it's a good idea, but sad that able-bodied people still park in handicapped spaces.

perhaps it would work better if the meter announced, "if you aren't disabled when you park here, you will be when you leave."

I still think the best solutions are the old ones -- bring those people into compliance by hobbling them. Damn ACLU.

A problem in my area is that many people have access through a family member of a handicap parking sticker and use it for easy parking. One guy, for example, drives daily to his workplace. He tells me that his mother is very old and it was issued for her. Every so often, he takes here somewhere. But not that often. The sticker, he said, proves very useful for his needs.

How about attaching a little sensor to every handicapped tag? that way, the meter can really chew out those with them? wait, wait, wait....how 'bout exploding meters. yes!

How about the people who have handicapped stickers/placards on their sports cars? How do they get in and out of their uncomfortable, tight seat with their handicap? Or handicapped spots at a tennis court? Maybe I can finally find a tennis partner I can beat!

My father qualified for a handicapped plate because of his heart condition. Nothing about that condition would have precluded him from getting in and out of any particular type of vehicle. Handicap does not always equal physical deformity or difficulty in ambulation.

My mother who worked with people with disabilities taught me at a young age to lash out those who misuse the parking spots reserved for those with disabilities. So I have lashed and lashed and spit and spat and challenged fights... Now I just use the Kramer phrase: If they are handicapped they don't need the spot cuz they can't drive. On a side note: I must feel somewhat sorry for those who misuse disabled parking tags. I had to drive my girlfriend around for three months when she tore her ACL and I must admit that it is somewhat of a powertrip to be able to park closer and yes dammit I used the pass when she was not in the car and I was proud of it. I had a 'go ahead and stop me' attitude. Then the time expired on it and all of those that I poked fun at for having to park further away at school kicked my ass. The end

What I want to know is... how much is this costing and who is paying for it? And is it REALLY necessary?
