Fantastic, whimsical wooden furniture from Judson Beaumont

Inspired by such diverse influences as Pee-Wee's Playhouse to Frank Gehry and Warner Brothers Cartoons to Philippe Starck, Vancouver, BC based woodworker Judson Beaumont's furniture is whimsical yet fully functional and is suited for children and adults alike.

Judson's official website, Stright Line Designs, can be found here. Unfortunately, it's entirely flash-based, so I can't link you to anything in particular. However, it's definitely worth clicking around. I highly recommend the Sketchbook (which can be found under "What We Do"), and of course, the Gallery section.

I'm not sure I buy your "yet fully functional" evaluation. Oh, I'm sure the drawers go in and out and so forth, but just looking at some of those dressers tells you what a bitch they'd be to actually use.

They're awesome looking but I bet they'd be annoying to deal with every day.

Clever. It would be like living in Toon Town. Who framed Roger Rabbit? I bet it was this guy (munny designed by Judson).

whimsical yet fully functional

Which is more than one can say for Gehry.

But yeah, cute.

Wow, that peeing coffee table would be funny for everyone the first time they saw it, but it would sure lose its charm if it was in your living room every day.

This is like furniture for 6-year olds with their own place. (As art it's pretty cool, though)

Jesus Christ, what I wouldn't give to hang out in this guy's house with a head full of blotter.

A lot of it looks like something Jim Woodring would draw for Frank's house.

On the one hand, it certainly gives me joy to look at these amazing and clever pieces, but looking at the price tags makes me a little bit sad. $5K for a dresser that melts and $3K for a urinating table. Ouch.

I swear I saw this before here... if I didn't, then I've got very vivid hallucinations going on.

MegoSteve : ah, you found out how much they were? I was clicking like crazy and couldn't find a single price. The adage "if you have to ask how much..." was coming to mind.

Well-made kitsch is still kitsch.

eurasian: Did a Google search and found Melting Dresser and Bad Table on a site called Cool Kids Furniture. I guess all the cool kids are rich. :)

I wonder if stavros has seen the stuff made from pine beetle wood? (Look under the 'Projects' section of this guy's site, for the items 'Pine Beetle Rocks' and 'Pine Beetle Bench' ...)
