The Good, the Stop and the Motion

The animator Pes has just released a new stop-motion short: Western Spaghetti.

Since last being mentioned on MeFi, he's made a number of stop motion shorts, including the Human Skateboard which did the rounds a while back [on MeFi] and Game Over. For those interested in a bit of background there is an interview with him about Game Over and two making of movies, one about Roof Sex and one about Kaboom.

Wow, that was really awesome and creative. How did he do the water effect?

Bubblewrap

OK, I can see that for the boiling water. What about the cool water?

That's pretty swell.

we just had a teletubbie moment here with my kids squealing, "Again, again!"
thanks :)

And it doesn't have any calories!

I was wondering about the cool water as well. I think it's sheets of some semi-flexible plastic, perhaps the kind you get for overhead projectors. That's just a guess though.

Oh, it's actually better without sound. Check it out.

I second the teletubbie moment. I lost possession of my laptop for about 45 minutes. When I came back, my 5-year old was browsing around on MetaFilter.

[winces]

I think it's time to sit my kids down and have "the MeFi talk". I was hoping to put that off a few more years. They grow up so fast.

I went to school with his co-animator, Javan Ivey (who also did "My Paper Mind" posted here awhile back), and I feel he added a lot of his own wonderfulness to this short. The people who do this sort of thing are mighty clever. I only wish cartoonbrew had posted this at another time than July 3rd, when no one was surfing the internet except me and the Geektons.

They probably have the still-sharp evolutionary skills to rock at the fake-tits game.

Oh, cool. This is in this year's Animation Show, which I just watched. The water was bubble wrap.

I've been checking out his other shorts, and while his stop-motion is great, Dogs of War is just brilliant.

Delightful. I am going with bubble wrap for the "water."
