When I was a kid I'd watch these guys on Sesame Street with a sense of incredulity and wonder which I could not, at the time, accurately put into words. This is because as a small child I was unfamiliar with the phrase "what in the fucking fuck?" Thank you for the Saturday Nostalgia Theater.

I've long tried to convince my friend who works in the marketing department of Radio Shack that they should license these guys for their commercials. Imagine the yip yip martians beaming down in some random suburban strip mall: "Yip yip yip yip radio....radio....Radio Shack! Uh huh uh huh uh huh!" It would be much better than their current campaign: "Hey nerds! We still sell all those doo-hickeys you seem to need for your weirdo projects!"

Oddly, I knew what this post was about from the link text. As for those of you questioning the wisdom of these guys being on Sesame Street, hands off. No way in hell are you guys retroactively removing these wonderful aliens from the imagination of my 4-year-old self. Poor kids these days get Barney, Teletubbies, Dora the Explorer and Elmo. I'd rather have been scared out of my wits once in a great while by a semi-malevolent Count Von Count than listen to any of that drippy sing-along crap. Jim Henson, come back to us.

A sense of wonder would be awesome, Mephisto, but these inspired a sense of inexplicable horror. Now they seem pretty cool, but as a kid they were frightening. (Maybe that's the problem: adults going "ohhh! that would be cool!" and inadvertently producing fuzzy Cthulhu.)

I managed to get the audio from the Yip-Yip sketch with the phone and use it as my ringtone on my cell at my last job. My phone rang an hour or so after that, and by the end of the day, half my coworkers *also* had it for their ringtones, rendering it a little difficult to tell whose cell was ringing at any given time.
