Prvi svetski rat - Gritty and poignant Serbian postcards from the First World War. Just one of the seriously interesting (e.g. check out the collection of 78s) holdings at the Digital National Library of Serbia.

Could you give me some pointers on navigating the site? I'm interested to see the collections but when I click the links I go to what looks like some sort of flash viewer but no images appear.

Was a problem with Opera. Switched to Firefox and can see them fine. Fabulous post, tellurian. Thanks!

I love the way the 78s are accessed, and I love the sound -- clean as a whistle. Not a scratch. Really worth checking out.

I take that back, some of the 78s are scratchy. But they come from the "old, weird" Serbia, the way that the "Anthology of American Folk Music" comes out Greil Marcus's "old weird America."

Those 78s are great. I wish there was a way to download them. Unless there is, and I can't read it.

Thanks for allowing me to visit the .yu domain before it is phased out next year.

Can anyone translate the titles of the 78s?

Oh, there are hundreds of them. That's too much of a favor to ask.
