Wow. The stories on that first site are BITTER. Lying and cheating and sleeping with the best friend. And no one has any perspective or admits to any of their wrongdoing or accepts any of the blame. I know there really are relationships like this, where one person is a veritable saint and the other is nearly a pathological liar and cheater. I'm just not sure I'm willing to believe there are so many of them.

I was ripped apart like a holiday present with such euphoric pleasure only to be tossed away as ribbon and torn gift wrap. Only to be put on the curb like a sack of garbage, only to be scavenged by a bulk trash seller and sold for a hefty profit, only to be recycled into new materials like a shiny roll of wrapping paper, only to be sold at a discount store in the holiday aisle... heh, this is fun.

Bitch shot my dog and set fire to my trailer. Time to play that song backwards, I think. I read through three pages of those posts, and they were just awful. The events described were banal, and the narcissism combined with the flat writing was too much for me. It's a good FPP, but not because it is a fascinating read -- instead, it is noteworthy for how it encapsulates the worst of the modern mania for not just TMI but TM me me me.

How have you been burned by love? Very recently (in fact, within the last fifteen minutes or so), I was sitting down to get some dinner while browsing a favorite site of mine (it's this site I go to where they post links and discuss stuff on the internet. I forgot the address, but I'll think of it later). A link to a video site caught my eye- actually, it was a little different because it was just a page of videos which were hosted on some other website. Excitedly, I clicked play on the first of said videos. After the initial buffering was complete, I was greeted by a close up of a young girl who related a story about her getting on a train or something. She apparently bumped into some trendy looking bookworm dude who caught her attention. Oh yeah, this story takes place in New York (more on why that's important later). She found this man quite attractive... she described him as looking like... um... someone. I thought she said William Burroughs, but that couldn't have been right. I mean, she thinks he looks like a junkie? And that turns her on? I digress. She wanted to know what he was reading, but rather than ask him, she did this thing New Yorkers do called the Manhattan Staredown. Honestly, it wasn't really called the Manhattan Staredown. But I do know it's something New Yorkers do since she told me so. She made a face like this: `.` And now you know how to do the Manhattan Staredown. So the train arrives, and she still hasn't figured out what he's reading. But, as luck would have it, they are both forced to stand on the train. He is still buried in his book, and she has now admitted to herself that she really isn't so interested in what he's reading as she is in getting to have some physical contact with him. This is an important turning point in the video, as the girl admits she was looking for this sort of encounter, as she had just recently moved to New York, and was lonely, and had left a boyfriend behind when she moved, and was determined not to go home ever again. With all this in mind and without a word spoken between them, she kisses him (no tongue), one, two, three times. The story was over, and the video then told me how intense the story I just watched was. But for me--- something dawned on me. Sitting here on the internet, having just come in from swimming in some lake in Michigan (heck, I'm still in my swimtrunks), eating a dinner of macaroni & cheese with hot dogs in it, I very well could be the unhip boyfriend she left behind. Not literally. of course.
