Human Genome project connects to global warming

Somehow the human genome project is now connected to the fuel and global warming crisis. And I'm optimistic about it. When I first read about Venter and the human genome project, I figured he was just a braggert and a nutty opimist when it comes to science solving all of our problems. But there is no question that his input and energy into the HGP not only moved it along, but was instrumental in cracking the sequence. Venter is back after having lost his bid for patents on the human genome (I think that's a good thing, but probably fuel for a different post) and now he's working on something he considers magnitudes more difficult than the HGP: the energy crisis combined with global warming. And he'll have something for us within five years. It makes for great optimistic reading and I think I'll be keeping my eye on his progress again. It was fun the first time around. This post was deleted for the following reason: A post to the front page should be more with the linking and less with the personal thoughts on the matter; this does read more like something for your blog than for the Mefi. -- cortex

But what do you think about it, Sue?
