Lots missing from Brooklyn. Without spending much time, I found at least a dozen cool Brooklyn bars that were missing, but maybe that's a good thing: fewer tourists and bridge-and-tunnel.

no, actually, mkb, Brooklyn is full of people who prefer living here over Manhattan, and who find the choice of bars, restaurants and nightlife options here mostly superior to those of Manhattan. But I'm fine if you're in the dark about it. Yes, and? I hang out in Brooklyn mostly when I'm in the city, too, but that doesn't magically change the definition.

Why is it that, despite living in a city with the largest density of things to do in the entire world, New Yorkers seem to require an impressive array of technological gadgets just to figure out how to kill some time? oh snap! take THAT new yorkers! no, actually, mkb, Brooklyn is full of people who prefer living here over Manhattan, and who find the choice of bars, restaurants and nightlife options here mostly superior to those of Manhattan. But I'm fine if you're in the dark about it. I may be wrong, but I think mkb was saying that you're misusing the phrase "bridge and tunnel," not that there's something wrong with brooklyn. I think what he was saying is that the bridge and tunnel crowd is, technically, anyone who takes a bridge and/or tunnel to get to manhattan, and that you're surrounded by those people you seem to be looking down on. So the idea of there being "less bridge and tunnel" is not really all that accurate. Now, if you mean "less long island and new jersey" when you say "less bridge and tunnel," you may be right, but as a long islander (who also lived in new jersey for a small period of time) who works and socializes in the city I can assure you that there are plenty of "bridge and tunnel" folk where you like to drink. also, this borough war kind of stuff smells strongly of hipsterism.

Sure it does: lots of people come over bridges and through tunnels to spend the evening hanging out in Brooklyn. I see them on the weekends; they come from NJ, they come from Manhattan, they come from Kansas; 5 or 10 years ago that was not the case.

Bar Veloce 176 2nd Ave. (btwn 11th & 12th St.) In 2002 Steve Johnson heard a voice in his head that told him to kill white people. He ended up taking 15 people hostage in Bar Veloce. Ahhhh. My old hangout.

Bridge and tunnel these days seems to refer primarily to NJ and Staten Island (part of NJ that ended up in NYC by mistake) with some Long Island and a little bit of the northern suburbs. Brooklyn and Queens? Not really. Anyone complaining that too many people from Brooklyn were in their Manhattan bar would complain about hipsters, not bridge and tunnel people.

"Bridge and tunnel" does imply Jersey or Staten Island these days, particularly since an increasingly large number of the good parties and events are in fact in Brooklyn or Queens.

One rule of thumb: bars with a singular noun (or god help us a verb or adverb)* for a name suck, bars with a possesive proper noun name are good. It's the grammar/booze nexus. *the jury is still out on conjunctions but I've never drank in one.
