It's ironic when propaganda fails. "Truth stands the test of time; lies are soon exposed." (Holy Bible)

I love the "fleeing" motion the andro newsbot makes as it describes the fleeing from the bombs.

Isn't it kind of obvious that the Georgians aren't the aggressors when the Russians have actually brought tanks and troops into Georgian land, and not vice versa?

Can I have less unsubstantiated Bible assertions in my over-editorialised newsfilter next time?

A Fox newsbot declaims: "The young girl is a hero in San Francisco, and understandably."

Stop that. Stop that right now.

"There are gray areas in war."

Urge to kill .. RISING.

Huh?2 (About your term "propaganda," I mean.)

Plus a side order of "Какоева? Her name is Какоева? Ха ха ха!"

Some people may find referencing the Bible in a post about propaganda, truth, and the "test of time" to be ironic in its own right.

Just so I understand:

This is a collection of youtube videos taken from FOX News, the first of which shows a FOX anchor cutting off a family (American? Russian? Georgian?) while they're trying to explain that they were bombed by Georgians, not Russians. The second link is to a Fox Reporter running from what he says are disorganized Georgian troops firiing at civilians.

The idea, if I understand correctly, is that these are instances of Fox News trying to spin the conflict so that Russia appears to be the aggressor, but the spin fails and it is made clear that the Georgians are?

I'm trying to make sure I understand this post. I'm not trying to dispute or reinforce its claims.

The important thing is, we should jump in with both feet on one side or the other and demonize the other side so the US population feels good about the side we took. Maybe then they'll support sending in troops to die for the cause we dimly apprehend.

What stopped you from explaining the content of these videos in your post? What stopped you from supporting your claim of irony? I'm not asking to be spoon-fed; I'm happy to draw my own conclusions from what you've presented. But the content and presentation only lead me to one specific conclusion: You don't understand the phrase "Best of the Web".

South Ossetia passed a referendum on independence from Georgia two years ago; plus they have had considerable autonomy. South Ossitians have also been accepting Russian passports. To me, it seems incredibly stupid to leave the small powerless nation where your an independent autonomous province, only to join Russia. wtf? So the Georgians must have really pissed them off.

Per shmegegge, can you please clarify what propaganda you're talking about here? The only thing failing so far is this post.

FYI: Since the Bible is one of the larger single volumes anyone is likely to have around, it's conventional to cite it at a little more granularity than just "It's in the Bible. Somewhere." A fairly standard short citation for this one would read (Prov 12:19 LB), but for a non-scholarly audience you'd probably do better to expand the abbreviations: (Proverbs 12:19 Living Bible).

/documentary derail

Me, I'm citing Baez 1966 myself.

note to the "escapee" girl; when you're hiding in a basement you don't have to see the bombs to know if they're going off or not.

The first video is kinda BotW for FOXNEWS getting propa-punked like that.

You know, I really don't have a clue what to think about the situation in South Ossetia. My best understanding is that the Georgians provoked the Russians quite badly but that the Russians are using this as just another reason to flex their old imperialist muscles and that nobody's hands are clean.

What I do know is that it makes me sick to see McCain and other American politicians who supported or support the war in Iraq getting all high and mighty about Russian adventurism. It's the uttermost height of hypocrisy to be all gung-ho for American imperialism in Iraq while condemning Russian imperialism in Georgia when it seems clear that however overkillish Russia's invasion might be, the Georgians certainly provoked Russia while we just decided to go kill a bunch of Iraqis because, well, we could and nobody could stop us.

Yeah, I don't really get it either.

I was expecting the second video to tell us that the 12-year old and her aunt were lying liars, and that she wasn't even in Ossetia.

But I appreciate the attempt to frame Fox News as spewing propaganda in a non-election-related manner.
