40 years of flopping

While watching the high jump in the current Olympic Games, note that 40 years ago the high jump was revolutionized by the appearance of Dick Fosbury and his radically different Fosbury Flop technique. Unlike the previous techniques, the flop involved jump over the bar backwards, leading Fosbury to a the 1968 high jump gold medal and set a new Olympic record at 2.24 meters (7 feet 4.25 inches). The Fosbury Flop is now the overwhelming popular choice for high jump competitors. Don't let the fact that the Fosbury Flop was actually invented by someone else ruin the fun.
