You don't need Metacritic to know that Driven blows. But you might need it to learn that Dolly Parton's new album is a gorgeous return to her bluegrass roots, Rififi is a classic french thriller, and You Can Count On Me is getting more 10's than Mary Lou Retton.

Second hand reporting of second hand reporting? What a great way to appreciate the arts for yourself. Alternatively, if all you want is a few choice lines for that next dinner party, dive in.

This was done first (and better, IMO) by Rotten Tomatoes. While they only do movie reviews over there, I think their rating system is more realistic, simply assessing a reviewer's take as either good or bad. I don't understand how Metacritic can assign varying degrees of good or bad simply through their reading of what a critic says.

does this mean competition for MeFi?

also, what happens when metacritic starts rating websites and gets around to MeFi? someone has already covered this

Has Matt seen this? It's a pity colour schemes can't be copywrited . . .

Color schemes too? White, blue, yellow is easy on the eyes. I wish more sites followed that rule. There is a big difference between what 123cheaphosting did and using the the same colors.

Exactly! No one who enjoys MeFi would appreciate a website that amalgamates a cross-section of the informed and entertaining views of others!

to which I can only quote:

Some have at first for Wits, then Poets past,
Turn'd Criticks next, and prov'd plain Fools at last.

Not to mention the grid that Entertainment Weekly has used for at least ten years.

um I liked Driven, it had an awful story, but some really good racing scenes, esp. the race from the driver's viewpoint. Any movie with so many F1 references can't be that bad :)

If it hadn't been for this, I might have missed Zombie! vs. Mardi Gras.
