I'd climb that.

An interesting site, but it looks a little too pedestrian for my taste.

just kidding, neat find!

Upskirt stairs.

Double post. Same stuff. Why don't people search before they post? Link from March this year.

These are astounding, but I can't help but think that many of these stairs wouldn't work for toddlers, or the elderly, or the klutzy...

Because stairs are uplifting, shockingbluamp!

It's not a double; the other post just used the phrase "stair porn".

"Spiral" staircase is a common misnomer, as they are almost always helical.

I prefer the stair porn as seen in A History of Violence.

These stairs are to look good in the architect's portfolio, not to serve the public.

Stop stairing.

I've never used alternating tread stairs before. Are they more difficult to walk on than normal stairs when you're distracted (reading a book or whatever)?

Apparently stair design is tricky. I was surprised to learn that each step's riser height needs to be the same because even a small difference in height will make people trip.

Well, they're way easier to climb (much less descend) than a ladder.

I prefer the stair porn as seen in A History of Violence.

That scene was disturbing, I'd prefer to have not seen it at all.

One North Wales castle has a flight of stairs up to the main bedroom with a step with a different riser on purpose, to trip assassins...

This was apparently standard in castle helical staircases that might need to be defended, they also all spiral the same way so that (for right handed people anyway) the defenders can maneuver theirs swords more easily.

It's not porn unless it involves Slinkies.

*sigh, pulls out soapbox*

I haven't seen a public "this is our headquarters" building in I-don't-know-how-long where stairs weren't used to create some sort of Grand Sweeping Entrance effect, and the ramp was put off in an inconvenient corner, if it was visible at all. It'd be nice if architects could find a less divisive way to make their buildings look cool.

Whereas on the other hand, I work in one of those not-so-grand, not-so-public office buildings where the entrance leads directly to a bank of elevators and it took me a few weeks to figure out where the (very well-hidden) staircase was.

(But yeah, ADA-type accommodations are pretty weak still. Sorry, spaceman.)

That's an excellent stair site.

I love stairs and live in a five storey walkup, so that's a good thing. But wish there was a sliding down option. :)

Does it count if I like stairs outside as well as inside? Some of my favorite stairs. The Dogon people in Mali have these wonderful notched tree trunk stairs. l This set of stairs with drawers. Handy. Nice design. l Ooh. Different ooh. Oh! l Cool tree railing. l And these are amazing for ingenious beauty. l Then there's the tale of a 70-year-old Chinese man who hand-carved over 6,000 stairs up a mountain for his 80-year-old wife. l The Swayambu stairs. l More daunting but beautiful stairs. The seriously daunting Haiku Stairs. l Inside the new Thomas Heatherwick designed Longchamps store, Spring Street, New York. l Another look at the box stairs.

And then, phew, stoop sitting.

Thanks for the cool post blue_beetle.

In the StairPorn site under the stair humor link, I'm surprised there was no mention of the wonderful French term, l'esprit de l'escalier, wit of the stairs, which means thinking of just the right thing to say but too late, as one is going down the stairs, "being wise after the event". Treppenwitz is the German version.

Still only a double in subject area, but not in actual links.

"Treppenwitz" sounds like a great last name...for a comic.

Cool stairs. I like stairs too. As a kid, I was always dreaming of stairs. I love houses that have both front and back stairs. Alas, I have a knee issue that makes stairs less fun than they used to be. (I miss being 20-something, when I used to fly up and down stairways)

It's the first thing listed on the main page linked by the OP, now -- someone took your hint.

Great post, thanks blue_beetle.

@Blue_beetle -- sorry, I didn't mean to imply it was a double. Just that we had some prior stair porn, more good stuff.

I love this kinda stuff!

Thanks, beagle, for the link to my previous post. I did use the term "stair porn," but it's a different link. But ya know... there can never be enough stair porn. Of any definition.

Whenever I hear the term, I think of a scene in A History of Violence.

*waves to StairPorn blog owner, thanks for the headsup Pantengliopoli.

Sadly, how I came to know the term l'esprit d'escalier (or ''l'esprit de l'escalier, whichever) was by a bizarre double suicide. The owner, Theresa Duncan, of the blog called The Wit of the Staircase, killed herself and then so did her beloved, Jeremy Blake.

And then there's my favorite British miniseries about the Edwardian era, Upstairs, Downstairs.
