DU, I thought of including the Anna Anderson story, but it seemed to me that she was a con artist (if a single-minded and grand one), not a true believer. Of course, I could be wrong. There are other, apparently sincere Romanov claimants who do not have Don Bluth musicals about them, but also not so much linkable.

I like this sort of thing too, but does Pope Michael belong in this group? The Lindbergh and Bourbon claims are about genealogy and therefore at least theoretically provable, while the Vatican in Exile and similar groups are about who God thinks is really Pope, something seemingly unprovable.

In the case of the Vicar of Christ, there's also a "provenance" that can be followed, apostolic succession from Saint Peter. It would be interesting to know which three bishops consecrated him bishop, and which Bishops consecrated them, and by what method he was elected "Pope Michael".

I think in Pope Michael's case, he might be a little loony, or at least running a scam for... $10 for the book plus general donations. To his credit, the ad was pretty well buried and the stuff documenting the previous pope's heresies was written with some semblance of journalistic integrity. And well, his Novena prayers seemed pretty genuine, i'm split on just whether this guy is for real or not now. Actual motivation would be nice to see in his case. It might be nice to have a return to the old spiritualists of the late 19th century that went around telling people about their famous past-lives, if only to shake the apathy away -- "i was so great before, maybe i can be great again" etc.
