Hitler: our part in his downfall. Most links NSFW. MLYT

This post was deleted for the following reason: I'm not sure what this adds to the downfall posts we've already seen and I sort of agree with this "These sorts of gags are a subtle way to humanize Hitler and the Nazis while ignoring the utterly inhuman acts of cruelty and murder they perpetrated." -- jessamyn

Cursing. It's what dictators do in private.

it's really time to put this tired gag to rest, isn't it?

You know what else is a tired gag?

What else is a tired gag? Maybe living off the glory of a victory 14 year ago, EMRJKC94?

To be fair, Hitler probably would have had a lot of good advice for McCain, if McCain hadn't already been 634 years old during WWII.

So, the first one is done by a conservative, anti-Obama person. Probably not a good idea to put your political argument into the mouth of Adolph Hitler.

I'll pass on the rest of these.

Unless someone has done this with all eight hours of Syberberg's Hitler: A Film From Germany I refuse to be impressed. REFUSE.

Asked how he felt about the spoof, in which Hitler is a chief sub-editor who learns that Coren's copy has been altered, the journalist said: 'I'm fluent in German, so watching it with subtitles is not quite as funny for me as for everybody else. There was a time when an Englishman could speak fluent French and German, but I suppose the YouTube generation spends its time doing this instead.

Next: Stalin becomes the kindly grandfather in a new series of children's books.

I suppose I should have just made one of these, actually.

I was amused by the first Thompson quote in the Grauniad article: "Just as Picasso stole from Velázquez's Las Meninas, "

Also, in general, isn't this a standby gag in Brit telly humor? I seem to recall "Hitler's meltdown", or similar, in both Python and the Young Ones, for example. Cousins, enlighten we colonials!

Gah, trimmed the quote: 'We should consider the various renderings of Downfall as an art form in its own right. Just as Picasso stole from Velázquez's Las Meninas, so we should see various renderings of an original movie as a legitimate expression of creativity.'

KokuRyu, interesting point. Does that perspective hold true for the British 'mock the Axis' humor thing I refer to above? It may account for the discomfort one experiences on viewing the pieces, I suppose.

To be provocative (although I do believe indeed believe this), Europeans have always hated Jews. You can blame the Nazis, if not the Germans for the Holocaust, but the extermination of 6 million people was a pan-European effort (although the Danes, being Danes, did not collaborate with the Final Solution). Perhaps this is why this sort of humour persists.
