Where would one have seen these posters? Nowadays, almost all of the concerts I go to are announced and tickets sold on the web. I can't recall the last time I saw a poster like the ones pictured.

I was wondering the same thing... are they really still plastering lots of concert posters up around cities in America these days? I have a feeling not so much, but I wouldn't know.

Given the quality of screen printing and the graphic design that goes into these, I'm guessing they go straight past being hung up in neighborhoods and onto the walls of collectors.

Arrgh, Smashing Diggbait. Flapjax, how many posters you see depends on where you are - I was in Seattle last week and every telephone pole was completely covered with posters. Most of them were B&W, though; not whole-rainbow pieces like these.

Yeah, there were a couple in this post that were pretty good, but those were far outweighed by an awful lot of awful. Around here, a lot of the posters are made by these guys. I like 'em.

flapjax, there are some, but not a lot. The only people still using the ol' bucket o' glue method with any regularity are hip hop artists and movies catering to the hip hop crowd. I live in a pretty run-down area of Philly, and I see these on boarded up windows all the time.

I'm a big fan of Mike Budai, but he's out here in Pittsburgh so his posters might be unknown to most of the country. I have a few of his prints; all of them are screen printed by hand and the colors are wonderful up close. I've seen him working at Artist Image Resource (AIR) occasionally and I'm always amazed by his meticulousness...and his bunnies. BTW, AIR is open to the public on Tuesdays if you're in town and ever wanted to learn how to screen print.

Where would one have seen these posters? For rock/etc shows, I see them in record stores and at the actual venues pretty frequently--increasingly now that concert posters are a hot collection item. Of course, that's in Chicago, where Jay Ryan and friends have done a lot for the poster culture. Collectors snatch them up by the time the show is over, so you don't see old ones sticking around as much but they're definitely around. I'm guessing they appear on college campuses as well...

I usually enjoy Smashing Magazine articles but I didn't like a single one of the posters they picked out. Maybe my taste is very different. I far prefer this collection of 50 posters.

Some of the posters are alright, but that is some seriously bad writing. Are 'inspiring' and 'vibrant' the only adjectives this guy can come up with?

I want the one of Morrissey drinking with Oscar Wilde hanging on my wall, but only because I really like Morrissey. The rest of them are mostly pretty standard concert poster fare.
