Sorry for the self-link, but I work at a gallery that represents U-Ram Choe. This page has some more pictures and video, if you're interested. Unfortunately, we're not having a new show with him until next year at the earliest, but I do get to sit underneath one of his sculptures at the front desk!

I had the privilege of seeing his solo show at the Crow Collection here in Dallas last year. Absolutely brilliant work. I really appreciated the extra conceptual step he takes by creating a cryptobiological context complete for each complete with genus and species classification. It's the sort of thing that so often seems tacked on or contrived, but since the sculptures themselves are so strong, it just elevates the whole to a greater level than the sum of its already impressive parts.

Oh, yes, I saw some of this work last year here in Dallas and it was really amazing to behold. I was very impressed; the Crow collection has never looked so modern... like slowly pulsating insects. Lovely. Uncle Ira, I wonder if we passed each other there?
