This kind of thing is precisely what I hate most about the NYT.

Here's one they left out:

CLARENCE WILSON
Unskilled laborer, currently between jobs

Well, here in East New York, the local park ain't one you'd wanna hang out in too much, you know what I'm sayin', and I sure as hell wouldn't bring my camera there to take pictures... be the last time I ever saw that camera! I guess I'm mostly looking forward to getting the rats outta the basement, but, I dunno, landlord said he'd be gettin' 'em out right about this time last fall, too, so, I ain't holdin' my breath, you know?

For the 1-2-3 line to run more than one train every 20 minutes and for express-local connections to work with some semblance of care?

And don't get me started on Queens-Brooklyn connections, or the uselessness of the bus system, or the F train not being fetid, or the never ending construction on Columbus Circle fucking everything up, or access to the Bronx being feeble, or actual service cross-town, or the eternal mystery of the G train.

At least the L kinda works now.

and yes It's still better than it was, but c'mon, we can beat Eastern Europe for subway service. At least out trains run all night when they do run. (grumble, London, grumble)

Like girlhacker, I made the mistake of associating the quote with the name above it. For a few moments I was like "wow, David Wright is into obscure mosaic bench art projects and eating pizza with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge! Cute, plays baseball, and romantic!".... A few moments later my illusions were shattered.

As an ex-New Yorker, I miss a lot of the things mentioned, but I don't know...it's like the longer you are away from the city, the less you long for it. The first few years after leaving rather unwillingly, I couldn't wait to go back. Now...not much at all, even though I go back to visit quite a lot. NY is like a fever that gradually fades.

THIS IS WHY THE REST OF THE COUNTRY HATES US, GUYS

I guess it seems like simple bitterness to you, but i wouldn't characterize it as such. I think a lot of people just felt the need to express how depressingly elitist the NYT almost always is.
