If you're reading this, then you're probably qualified. This is my job, but I've tendered my resignation so I can move out to Wyoming and become a carpenter. If you know a web-master/designer who's been 'down-sized' (and who doesn't?), hook a brother up.
It's actually a nice place to work. I don't dig the corporate thing at all, but the IS dept is very friendly and you do get a measure of creative freedom. (and i've broken them in, so they're used to off the wall ideas.)

Is that all webmastering is worth these days? Yikes.

Ditto. Site-building is for fun. (I also play make-your-ears-bleed music for local bars'n'parties, which is also fun, but I don't expect to make that into a career either.)

Of course, a full-time webmaster making $9.45 an hour should read up on yesterday's living wage thread.

OK, that's that for this thread.

Amended to say: I'm happy. Rentrak seems like a great place.

it makes me wonder where the population centers of mefi are?

anyone want to create a database of regged users and create a map for us right-brained ones?
posted by jcterminal at 4:40 PM on May 9, 2001

Hmn... PHP has some interesting image-manip tools. Depending on what database MeFi is on (Too lazy/late for class to look it up on metatalk now...) ...could probably use PHP to parse that field out, do a match with a database of locations vs a coordinate on a map image, and place a pixel there...

Umm... Not volunteering. At least, not until this summer.

I could probably manage that, since I have access to some good geocoding applications. Mapping to zip code centroids might be the best way to go, for US users.
posted by Aaaugh! at 6:15 PM on May 9, 2001

Yeah, but we don't have zip codes for all users... Matt, are you listening?
posted by SpecialK at 9:49 PM on May 9, 2001

Do we have zip codes for any users? Matt does collect IP addresses, though. Maybe it would be easier to use something like Host Name to Latitude/Longitude.
posted by Aaaugh! at 3:16 AM on May 10, 2001

Both of those ideas sound pretty neat. You can never have too many maps.
posted by eckeric at 9:02 AM on May 10, 2001

Remember that not all users here have Zip codes, so while it'd work for American users (and probably take into consideration Canadian Postal Codes) I don't know if it be useful for users outside North America, which is unfortunate because it'd be pretty neat.

What's the pay like for carpentry these days?
