Ah. The flash intro isn't actually the game. Go to downloads for that.

Wow - awesome! Multiplayer online MULE - never thought I'd see the day :)

Was a nice nostalgic moment watching the intro, although I was puzzled that the music seemed faster than I remember... then I realised that I was used to running it on a PAL machine, whereas it was developed based on NTSC timings. I forgot that life used to be complicated like that.

Yeah, it'd be great if someone could make a flash version of this, but alas you have to download to play. (It is just a small, harmless download, though, and totally worth it.)

Fantastic. I loved this game when I was a kid, and I fully intend to leverage this as a means of introducing my kids to economics.

Ahh, M.U.L.E. God we loved this game. I remember being introduced to it back in the Summer of 1984, at our 8th grade graduation party/sleepover. We played it all night. My friend Bill and I got increasingly tired and nasty (as Jr Highers do), and eventually we decided that since we were the only two that had played all night without sleeping, we were superior and therefore should team up against the other players. Collusion, etc.

As I mentioned in a thread a few weeks ago, one of the key aspects of this game was that it taught you that it was no good to simply win; you had to be clever enough to make the colony succeed spectacularly and still end up on top. A lesson that the political elite of the U.S. seem to have not learned. I guess they were too busy playing Seven Cities of Gold.

M.U.L.E. is perhaps the best multiplayer video game ever made, a computer-native equivalent to German-style board gaming.

davejay: Remember, in M.U.L.E., if the players focus so much on screwing each other over that the colony isn't successful, it will explicitly declare that no one wins. If only Wall Street had learned economics from M.U.L.E....

I've not tried this version yet, but it is possible to play the original Atari 800 game on a Dreamcast emulator, which is one of the best hardware solutions for it since it has four controller ports. This should also be possible on the Wii once someone gets around to releasing an Atari 800 emulator for it.

It's posts like these that make me regret marrying a non gamer girl. I know she's going to wander out of the bedroom in a couple hours to figure out why I haven't come to bed yet on a work night, find me sitting in the dark, bleary-eyed by the light of the monitor, and yell at me.

At least this time I'll be able to honestly answer no to the Civilization question.

I played and loved Dan Bunten's Seven Cities of Gold on my C64. I was always vaguely aware of M.U.L.E., but had never played it until today, when I downloaded this and gave it a try. Seems like something I would have enjoyed back in the day, but I no longer have the patience for the clumsy interfaces of old.

Seems that Dan Bunten became Danielle Bunten in 1992. Huh.
