It's amazing how potent an example of a legal grey area this is. I mean, of course I understand why it would be illegal if I (a British citizen) donate directly to a US political campaign. And by extension, I can see how it's equally wrong if I give $2300 to, say, cortex, and ask him to donate that amount to a US campaign. But what if I send cortex $2300 and tell him to spend it on donuts, but he gives it to Daniel DeNardo instead? Is anyone breaking the law then? If so, who and what law and in what jurisdiction? And indeed, how can I possibly be prosecuted? I wonder if there are any precedents in which that actually happened.
