How intentionally funny is the suspiciously anticipated PC RPG game Fallout 3? An RPG elitist (heh) explains.

Fallout 1 and 2 are considered to be some of the finest PC RPG games ever made.

It's worth mentioning that none of the original development team for Fallout 1 and 2 worked on Fallout 3, but things still turned out A-OK.

Huh? Not a gamer, but can't even parse why this is supposed to be funny.

wiki, short forum post, wiki, wiki?

Just don't get it (or this post) at all.

I love Fallout. The first game was one of those glorious moments that made me remember why I play games.

I think Fallout 3 is a phenomenal piece of work, both as a Fallout fan and as a fellow developer. I recognize the insurmountable task that was set out in front of them.

I recognize the difficulty in guiding a 30 million dollar game from inception to market, especially with a beloved franchise, moreso with a rabid fanbase.

Bethesda is a standout company who did a great job with Fallout 3. Is it Fallout 1 or 2? No. Should it be? Probably not. Not in this day and age.

Oblivion with guns? Sure, in the sense that oblivion is Doom with swords.. or Microsoft Word is Zork without a story.

It's easy to be snarky about game development. It's easy to bitch and moan that it isn't just exactly like a 10 year old game.

Want Fallout 1?

Go to good old games, buy it, play it. Want something new, pushing the Fallout license into the 21st century? Want to support a developer (Albeit a big one), attempting to bring the magic of Fallout 1 to a new audience?

Get Fallout 3.

But make sure to play past the vault. It's a bit clunky in there. :)

I think it's an axe grindy post btw.

The No Mutants Allowed folks and a contingent of hardcore and frankly bunch of raving lunatics are making it their single purpose in life to "get the word out" about how Fallout 3 ruined the franchise and that pc games are coming back and turn based overhead gaming will rise again.

What is "suspiciously anticipated"? Viral marketing?

Post is lame, sorry. I loved the first two and am enjoying the third just as much. Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill...

No amount of snark can kill my anticipation for Fallout 3. I'm sitting here not even pretending to do work while I wait for the UPS guy to show up with my game. Man, I'm not going to get anything done this week...
