Huh. Kind of a weird juxtaposition of earnestness and snark. Particularly at the end. Anyway, this North Carolinian is off to the polls this afternoon. I'll let y'all know if I see any bearded hog farmers there. posted by Rangeboy at 9:10 AM on October 30, 2008

No, it's still there. I agree Rangeboy, kind of an odd little piece, but funny. posted by pearlybob at 9:13 AM on October 30, 2008

The way I look at it, most people are bozos who have no idea what they're voting for or why. This video doesn't brighten that viewpoint any.
I enjoyed it anyhow. posted by uncleozzy at 9:34 AM on October 30, 2008
Way to go ATHF guys, this is impressively well done and touching despite the degenerates in the middle of it. I don't think they overdid it, and they certainly got their point across. posted by hellslinger at 10:03 AM on October 30, 2008
that's certainly a choice quote, but the real clincher for me was Neil Patrick Harris saying "I vote because for the first time I'm in love and I want it to count." fucker nearly had me in tears. posted by shmegegge at 11:12 AM on October 30, 2008

shmegegge, yeah, at the half way point it gets serious, and I think does a good job of things. Also, Harrison Ford is almost too charming. posted by chunking express at 11:22 AM on October 30, 2008
i don't get it.
i watch these videos and they make me cringe. it's like watching the propaganda hit parade. i do believe in a responsible and productive electorate and a mandate to participate, but when do we get that?
as long as there's the reality of the fpp's vid still lurking how do we find a way to not curse the electoral process? education is a necessity in the construction and maintenance of a functioning democracy. and when it is lacking then how does our vote count?
if you can't tell the difference between the lies and the truth that we get fed on a daily basis from the canditorial machinery then how can your vote be anything except a waste of yor time, your freedom and our possibilities?
i'm not cynical. this is what gets my dumb ass up and out there. it's what makes me want to participate. it also makes me feel bewildered that people take these guys so seriously who run for the top leadership role in this country. the confusion i experience in public political debate with other americans doesn't inspire me to vote, but to make sure that we know what the heck we're voting for and to try to explain that the vote isn't the real option when your options are so clearly delineated into a straight jacket vs anti-psycho pills context.
watching the 'don't vote' videos just made want to cry. god, my morning might now be ruined. i need a hug and a plane ticket to a utopian tropical paradise. posted by artof.mulata at 11:56 AM on October 30, 2008
The video linked in photoslob's comment is amazing. If anybody happens to read this comment but not his, go watch it. I don't even live in the states and it really struck a chord with me. posted by tehloki at 12:00 PM on October 30, 2008
