Marina Hyde blogs on the Guardian website about the ludicrous press release circulating about Lily Allen's new album, referring to her as 'the Wordsworth of her generation'. Then Lily herself uses her right to reply,snipes about the journalist's affair with Piers Morgan, and debate ensues about the difference between her cheeky public persona and the fragile, defensive lass within.

Posted because I think I now love Marina Hyde.

I went in to this post siding with Hyde but exited siding with Allen, particularly with the note that she was inspired by Upon Westminster Bridge.

Also, I rather liked Allen's initial response to this. The later comment referencing the journalist's affair is unfortunate, but it seems like a comment war between a whipsmart pop star and a snarky music blogger more than anything else.

Lily Allen is pretty cute. I thought about resetting jessamyn's Cooter Clock, but I won't. The first link is oh-so-slightly NSFW if you work at a prudish place. Looks like some of her comments have been removed. I've never even heard of any of these people! Under the "cheeky" link it claims she disparages quite a few artists I respect, so will probably give her a pass. I do think if your going to do PR for a public figure, write bad prose, and send it out, you are fair game for a bit of ridicule.

Irony is that Lily Allen probably is the Woodsworth of the myspace generation. She's what they deserve. I fond her music to be ok, but a bit meh. Smile.

Bah the sleeping with Morgan allegation has been deleted by a moderator. Anyway I thought it was The Guardian's Editor she was supposed to have had an affair with? Piers as well, blimey. Still, do quite like some of Allen's songs but on this evidence she's had a total sense of humour failure and she certainly isn't' not lady. Marina, however is a goddess among women (depsite writing a lot about football, oh well no-one is perfect)

The Guardian is the newspaper of the Andrex puppy print eco friendly toilet paper generation so it appropriate that they also be the defender of Myspace Wordsworth as long as it doesn't add to the carbon footprint of their Spanish vacation.

Jack of all trades, and all that... I'm three pages into the comments and siding with Marina so far. Allen and the PR dude are coming across as spectacularly humourless.
