Wilco perform "The Wilco Song" on The Colbert Report... and Tweedy even manages to work Colbert's name into the lyrics. Apparently, the band are tight with a certain candidate.

It's like if Nintendo put Loni Anderson in Super Mario Brothers 3.

For this alone, it was worth it.

Not only are they the most friend friendly, hard working band around, they are also the best at what they do and display a sense of humor and satire in their songs that matches the great Steely Dan. Outstanding

Sometimes I worry that Jeff Tweedy takes himself too seriously but stuff like this makes me realize that he does have a sense of humor after all.

Huh? What's "The Wilco Song"?

They support Obama?

That's funny, I would have taken them for McCain supporters.

Huh? What's "The Wilco Song"?

If you had clicked on the "The Wilco Son" link, you would have seen the following:

"But until then, I'm happy to settle with this awesome new song Wilco exclusively world premiered on last night's Colbert Report. "

Why ever would you think that? Most musicians are liberals of one sort or another. I can only think of a handful of 'conservative rockers'.

They're from Chicago. They've been supporting Obama since he announced.

Oh, so it's just interesting for fans of Wilco. I see.

That's funny because you're being sarcastic since sarcasm is not easily recognizable.

Maybe the [/sarcasm] tag would have done the trick.

Why on earth would you think that? The thing that makes sarcasm easily recognizable is tone of voice. Sarcasm + internet = disaster.

Oh god, far too many "Why would you think that?"s

I didn't mean to contribute.

I suppose their two volumes of Woody Guthrie covers would have made it easy enough for anyone to mistake Wilco as being right of centre.

I liked the song, I liked the Colbert reference, I wished there could be six minutes of guitar feedback to simulate what my brain is going to feel like should McCain win.

Joey M - Wilco's new record comes out in '09, given Tweedy & Co's past flirtations with the avant garde and their decidedly (liberal) political bent, I think a McCain victory would most certainly be commented upon on their new record.

By the way, the joke of the song is that it's called "Wilco The Song", right? Did any one else catch that? A nod to "Joe the Plumber", right?

(sorry, sometimes I have a humor bypass)

I think I've seen the "~!" used to mean extra enthusiasm among the young anime-fan crowd. As in, "Yeah, let's do it~! n_n"

I have taken upon myself the liberty of replacing an innacurate wording in your comment with one somewhat closer to the truth, and I sincerely hope my humble effort is taken in the spirit of cheap lousy hapery in which it was intended.

This -- specifically, the tilde-bang -- sees a fair amount of use among pro wrestling online fandom. Figure Four Online even uses it as their favicon.

The explanation I've heard is that is denotes extra excitement (EXCITEMENT~!) (albeit occasionally sarcastic excitement) and it got started because some particular writer got SO EXCITED when writing that he would accidentally hit the tilde key at the same time as the exclamation mark.

MORE TILDES MEANS MORE EXCITEMENT~~~~!!!

And so yeah.

They're from Chicago too, huh. So what you're saying is this election is purely a matter of geography?

Wilco is the name of the grocery store in my hometown, in NW Indiana.

Why must he have so many musical guests lately? I typically give the song about 10-15 seconds to grab me then delete the episode off my tivo. I don't think this one made a full 10 seconds before I gave up on it.

I wish he would just stick to interviews.

I liked Tilde Bang's first album but then they got kind of cloying. And I hear they're McCain supporters too.
