The first time I saw Clarence was the whole "Patience" episode. For months afterwards, I'd ask most of my younger (and perpetually distracted) friends, "You know what you need?"

Oh the Patience episode is classic. I have fond memories of showing my extremely wasted friends the episode, and watching the utterly shellshocked looks on their faces. posted by naju at 7:52 PM on November 3, 2008
these monkey journey to the west from China and Hong Kong (shadow puppets!) are interesting.
During the last installment when Clarence found his "final paradise," god help me, I cried a little.
I know what you mean. Wonder Showzen was the most honest and beautiful thing I've ever seen aired on national television, and to watch it recognize the inevitability of its own doom in the toxic wasteland that spawned it was truly poignant. Compelling, even. posted by contraption at 8:12 PM on November 3, 2008 [1 favorite has favorites]
I saw the Patience episode knowing nothing about it, and my mouth fell open. It was just so perfect. posted by vronsky at 8:15 PM on November 3, 2008
I guess if they put some shit on the puppet's nose people would figure out faster that unfunny jerks were behind this Tom-Green style street prank crap. posted by longsleeves at 8:35 PM on November 3, 2008

I find these shows where morons with cameras do what they can to ridicule, irritate or humiliate innocent members of the public almost completely unwatchable. Unless it happens to be Sacha Baron Cohen, in which case I only find it about 40% unwatchable. or Dennis Pennis, who's only about 5% unwatchable.
I'd love to see a clip in which a random person headbutts Clarence's 'daddy' for taking the piss -- *that* would be some funny shit right there. posted by PeterMcDermott at 2:29 AM on November 4, 2008
For the haters, the Clarence sketches really are only a small part of Wonder Showzen; you should still give it a try for the cultural commentary and the disturbing kids' show satire. posted by themadjuggler at 3:38 AM on November 4, 2008 [1 favorite has favorites]
I love this show so much, except for the time traveling duck. I think my favorite song is "You Only Have to Pretend to Believe." posted by absalom at 4:45 AM on November 4, 2008
I have a large number of videos, gathered for the purpose of sharing them with friends. One long-time friend and long-time viewer was going through Wonder Showzen with me. When we got to 'Patience' my friend stopped watching videos with me. That was long ago. Still friends, but whenever I try to watch something with that friend, I am reminded of PATIENCE (patience) PATIENCE (patience) PATIENCE (patience) PATIENCE (patience) and my friend says no.
Xavier: Renegade Angel was made by some of the same crew and is sometimes funny in the same way for the same reasons. posted by eccnineten at 5:40 AM on November 4, 2008
